Determining Learning and Training Effectiveness

Overview
How do you know that participants learned what they were supposed to? How do you know they will use their skills and knowledge on the job? How will you know that you made a difference? And how do you use evaluation to improve your training?

This module presents four levels of evaluation and how each can be used effectively to gather important information about your participants, your training materials/design, and your training delivery. You’ll learn to create tests and other assessments that actually measure what you want to measure!

Performance Outcomes
As a result of participating in Determining Learning and Training Effectiveness, you should be able to:

  • Describe the role evaluation plays in training.

  • Explain the importance of considering evaluation before delivering training.

  • Compare and contrast the four levels of evaluation.

  • Create, modify, or critique an evaluation at each of the four levels that you can use back on the job.

Activities
Activities include: Overview of Evaluation followed by a – you guessed it – test!. We review test question writing and participants create several questions for their training. Participants create a Level III Evaluation Strategy to ensure training links back to the job. We use a case study to Determine the Business Impact.
